The Problem

Lost Calls. Lost Opportunities.

A new client fills out a form.
A job applicant responds to your ad.
You call them…and they don’t answer.

They see “Potential SPAM” on their screen and move on.
You never even know it happened.

Why is this happening?

Unfortunately, there’s no single master list or universal standard that determines whether a call gets labeled as “Spam Likely,” “Potential Spam,” or similar warnings. Instead, major mobile carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile rely on third-party analytics companies and automated reputation systems to decide how calls should be displayed to their subscribers.

Read more about why spam labels happen

These systems analyze calling patterns and reputation data using factors such as call volume, sudden spikes in outbound calls, low answer rates, consumer complaints, historical activity tied to a phone number, and even whether a number was previously used by another business. In many cases, these labels are applied automatically by algorithms rather than a human reviewing the calls.

The reality is that these systems are designed to stop illegal robocalls and scams, but they are far from perfect. Legitimate businesses are frequently mislabeled, especially companies that make a high volume of outbound calls or use cloud-based phone systems. Even properly authenticated and fully legal business calls can still receive spam labels due to inaccurate reputation data or overly aggressive filtering by carriers and analytics providers.

It’s also important to understand that Synfone does not create, apply, or control these spam labels. The labels are added by wireless carriers and the analytics databases they use. Because each carrier uses different analytics partners and scoring methods, the same phone number may appear normal on one network while showing a warning label on another.

That’s exactly why services like Number Reputation Management exist: to monitor how numbers are being labeled across carrier networks, identify inaccurate classifications, and work directly with the analytics providers to request corrections and improve a business’s calling reputation over time.

Missed

Poor First
Impression

Spam flags damage trust before you can speak.

How much does it cost?

$50/month

This price includes a single business entity or brand and one phone number. There is an added cost of $2/month for each additional phone number monitored which is registered to the same business entity or brand.

Is there a free option?

Yes. Businesses can register their phone numbers for free using Free Caller Registry, a shared industry database used by some analytics providers and carriers.

Registering there is a good first step, especially for businesses that are not currently experiencing spam label issues or that only make occasional outbound calls.

However, registration alone does not guarantee that spam labels will be removed or prevented. The process is self-managed, requires responding to verification and follow-up requests, and does not include ongoing monitoring of your numbers across carrier networks. In many cases, businesses do not realize there is a problem until customers stop answering their calls.

Synfone’s Number Reputation Management service goes beyond basic registration by providing ongoing monitoring, reputation tracking, and escalation assistance with the analytics providers used by major wireless carriers.
